The Roger Dubuis brand was founded in the 1980’s by Carlos Dias and Roger Dubuis as an independent brand in Haute Horlogerie. It was two extremely talented watch industry men deciding to work together. Dubuis had 14 years under his belt as a movement developer at Patek Philippe, and Dias had been a designer at Franc Muller.
Their watches caused a big stir at their introduction. The design was daring, the complications were many and the innovative watchmaking skills were brilliant. Roger Dubuis was a strong believer in keeping the craft alive in Switzerland even in the face of the quartz revolution and the Japanese competition. He was born in Geneva, has a solid reputation for top quality, and all the watches wear the canton of Geneva’s famous hallmark, the Poinçon de Genève. Since a number of years, Roger Dubuis is one of the extraordinary luxury brands in Richemont’s portfolio.
The Hommage Double Flying Tourbillon model, which is a tribute to mr Dubuis, has a case with a 45 mm diameter, the movement is called RD102 and even the rotor is made out of rose gold. Both front and back have a handmade guilloche pattern and Poinçon de Genève’s logotype is engraved between the movement’s two tourbillons. The movement is assembled from 452 separate parts and the power reserve is 50 hours. Naturally the back of the case has a sapphire glass to let the owner admire the masterpiece movement, the watch is waterproof to 30 meters and the model is not limited but series produced.
